Nail Design for Fun With Flags Link Up

So today's post is a little different, as today is my first link up post! So not only will you see the design I do but also there'll be a little linkup at the bottom with a load of other manicure designs on the same topic which for this one is "Fun with Flags" inspired by the mini series Sheldon Cooper presents in The Big Bang Theory.

This theme was the brain child of Dina for Secretary's Nail Art. So go and check out her post too! The theme is to basically try and uncover some of the symbols used in flags and not just use them for patriotic reasons. So with this brief, I decided to create my own flag using a few bits and pieces I found on the internet which I'll share with you.

Here's my end product:

The green base I chose is a revlon polish named 'Sassy' and I found it for the bargain price of 1 pound at my local pound store. I was so surprised when I put on one coat, it had some much cover that I decided it didn't need another.

In flags the colour green is mostly associated with the Earth and Agriculture, as well as sometimes referring to the Muslim faith. For my flag I wanted it to represent that my made up country is a highly agricultural one.

I also wanted to include another colour in my flag and after reading that the colour red often represents courage and revolution I stuck with that colour.

Now for where to put the red colour. There's a lot of reading into the different directions of colours and how the flag is split up. You can split it with a border, a cross, a diagonal line, box in the corner and many other ways. Lines can be horizontal or vertical and each have different 'proper' names when describing parts of a flag, these are fesses and pales. From what I can gather straight lines in a flag are to represent the different regions in the nations and the different things the nation stands for.

In order to get the polish onto my nail I simply used the brush that came with the polish and simply striped it up the centre of the nail.

I then also wanted to show that these nations were not segregated and instead united and so chose white stars to represent freedom and solidarity. I placed these up the middle stripe of red using a tiny detail brush, flicking out from the middle of the star in 5 different directions.

I then added on my favourite Matte Topcoat [The barryM one] to remove the shine from the design as I don't think there are many shiny flags out there.

I hope you enjoyed this post, there's another linkup coming up near the end of October too so look out for that. Also comment down below any flag facts that you know, I'd love to hear them. Also holla if you know why colours like pink and purple aren't used on flags, they'd be awesome ;)

Also check out these other creations!
