Dots and Curves

So I did my nails this week without a camera at hands, with the hope of creating a video tutorial using my display set. But luck be it when I went to create the video my camera ran out of battery so I ended up using my photo just to take a set of photos. My mani this week looks like this:

Pin VS Nail: Bunny Nail Art

A second nail art piece of the week, as I found the first design that I did chipped a lot and so I decided to redo them for the weekend.

Inspired by the #stampoutstress week, that included a petting zoo, we had at uni this week I found these adorable bunnies on Pinterest that looked too good to be realistic.

Half Moon Mani with Dotted Detail

Hi there, so today I wanted something simple but bold. In the quest for this I took out two contrasting colours and set to work creating this manicure.

Pin VS Nail: Cow Nail Art

So today is a short little post about recreating the cow nail art that I have seen on pinterest.

Original is here: pinterest pin

The tutorial was a short series of photographs that looked easy enough to follow and so I tried it.

Step one was to paint the entire nail white. Step two, Paint on the pink nose. Step three add the eyes and nose, for this I used the large end of a dotting tool. Step four the cow markings, for this I used the dotting tool again as I felt a brush would be too big.

Royal baby nails

Over the weekend the duchess of Cambridge had her second child, a baby girl. So to celebrate I decided to show you this nail tutorial using only three polishes that is worthy of royal approval.

If you have nails of the length shown you should be fine just using the brushes from the polish bottles but if not, like my diddly nails, I would suggest using a small nail art brush so the design isn't too bulky on the nail.

Nail Organisation Website Review - Nail-buff

This week through social media I came across a fairly new website that may just change the amount of polishes you own.

No more buying the same polishes twice as you cannot remember what you have sat at home, this website allows you to upload your collection to the website to view from your phone or laptop.

The website in question is... www.nail-buff.com

How It Works:
The site gives you two option, you can either compare two nail polishes from the collection they have already stored, or you can create your own collection. In order to create your own collection you will need to link it to your facebook account in order to sync your collection to have it on multiple devices. Once you are logged in you can then start building your collection and tracking the nail polishes you already have, many brands of nail polishes are already on the site, but many are also not. However, you are able to add your 'own' polishes from other brands customising it's name and colour to suit the polish you have in front of you.

Once saved your collection is then automatically there everytime you log on and can be viewed from both laptop/computer or mobile, if you have internet connection where you are. This means that when your out and about (in somewhere with free wifi or mobile data) you can view this collection and make sure you are not buying a shade you already have.
Some of my collection

What I Like:
Personally I did not have many of the nail polish brands that are already on the site and so have the create and upload your own shade meant that even budget nail polishes or the odd non-branded gift polish could be added to your collection. Also in edit view you are able to add comments to your collection, so you could leave notes for yourself when a polish is about to need replacing, so you can buy the exact same one. Also being able to compare brands colour before you go and buy them will be a big plus when wanting to build your collection as you will not be buying polishes that are too similar to each other. The website design is also very clean and makes you feel so organised.

Improvements:
One thing I really like about having your nail polishes stored altogether is the idea of others who don't know your collection being able view this and make sure they don't buy you the same one. So with that in mind I'd love a share button where you could email your collection to your family to ensure they don't get you any duplicates, or if you want duplicates they know exactly what shade and brand to get you. In the meantime though if anyone does want to share their collections taking a screenshot and uploading it as an attachment will do wonders.

Overall:
I will definitely be coming back to this site again and seeing how it expands. The search tool is a definite bonus as you can select a brand or colour and it will search your collection to see if you have anything that matches that description instead of you having to trawl through your collection manually.

This is definitely a site that nail polish lovers should have on their radar. So go and check it out if you haven't already!

Pin Vs. Nail Challenge: Cherry Blossom Nails

This pretty Cherry Blossom manicure has been a favourite of mine forever and today using a pin I found: https://www.pinterest.com/pin/438467713694082795/
I will try to recreate it for you.
The pin suggests that in 5 steps your nails will look great so here's the test!
I picked out 4 polishes that looked about the same shades as the ones in the picture:
The base colour is Miss Sporty Quick-dry colour 456, Black branches is a black Models own nail art pen and the two pinks used for the flowers are an animal nail polish and a Jack Wills nail polish, both bought for me as a present.

Step 1:
Paint your nails with the blue colour.
This was easy enough, yet my blue polish chose that moment to start running out, if this happens to you simply add a few drops of nail polish remover and shake up a little. This should increase the life span of the polish a bit more, it worked for me this time.
Painted Blue Nails

Step 2:
Draw 3 line in an arching shape on your nails.
Using the striping brush on the models own black nail art pen I simply picked a point on each nail and drew away from it in an arching motion. This can be a little trickier on your dominant hand but just play around and find a position that is comfortable for you to do this in.

Step 3:
Petals for your flowers.
Here I used the Jack Wills Pink nail polish and the bigger end of a dotting tool and although it seems counter-intuitive to imagine how big the inside of the flower is going to be it makes each flower unique and different. Use the dotting tool to create five dots in a circle shape with a space for the flower centre. A tip here would be to do small amounts of the flowers first, maybe one on the top of the black line or one in the middle, then once you've done each nail you can go and add more if you want. It's harder to erase then to add.

Step 4:
Add smaller 'buds' to the stems.
Here I again used the Jack Wills Nail polish but used the smaller end of the dotting tool, this made sure the design wasn't too cluttered and there was a difference between the main flowers and buds. Add a couple of buds per nail just off of the black stem that you drew.

Step 5:
Add the centre of the flower.
Using the Animal Nail Polish I filled in the centre of each flower with one darker pink spot. In my design I feel the pink was too dark so perhaps try a lighter shade to make the design more spring inspired.

Overall this was a quick and easy design to create that will definitely look good on anyone's nails short or long. Just adapt the number of branches on each nail. I also sealed my design in with a top coat to help prolong the life and the design and the effort I put in to creating it, although to be fair it wasn't too much effort.

I will be uploading pictures of the tutorial to my instagram page as I am unable to do here. The cover image shows the final image of the design I created and the pinterest link gives the instructions I followed. If you do go ahead and give this a try, it is definitely worthwhile, why not send me your pictures or Instagram message me at naildesignbyrhiannon!
